Samshvenisi (ruby-red), Teliani Valley, 2009

A blend of French Cabernet sauvignon and Georgian Saperavi grapes, this cherry-red wine has a touch of age about its colour. Initially, traces of oak as well as notes of pine cones and crushed cypress shoots, followed by the fleeting aromas of cooked cherries and fig jam. This is a full but relatively imbalanced strong wine which should accompany odjakhuri (fried potatoes with meat), grilled sausages or other fried dishes. Should be decanted beforehand.
