Tsinandali

Tsinandali is located in Telavi district on the River Alazani right bank. It encompasses the forested north-west slopes of Tsiv-Gombori and River Alazani valley. The vineyards are mostly planted 300-750 meters above sea level. The micro-zone includes the following villages: Akura, Vanta, Busheti, Qvemo Khodasheni, Tsinandali, Kisiskhevi, Kondoli, Nasamkhrali, Shalauri, Kurdgjelauri, and Vardisubani. The climate in Tsinandali is moderately humid with hot summers and reasonably cold winters. The total sum of the annual sunshine amounts to 200 hours. The grape ripening period falls on late August. Making of quality European wines requires grape harvest to start in late September. Among the most important grape varieties in Tsinandali are: Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, and Kakhuri Mtsvane. AOC wine is made from the Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane grapes. Total territory of the Tsinandali micro-zone amounts to 653 hectares.
