Rkatsiteli, made by monks in the Alaverdi Monastery’s wine cellar, 2010

This wine was made in qvevri in the wine cellar of the Alaverdi Monastery according to traditional Kakhetian methods from Rkatsiteli grapes harvested from vineyards next to the village of Ojio. A handsome and lustrous amber-coloured wine distinguished by notes of walnut, cooked quince and delicate spices. Quite a strong full-bodied wine with powerful tannins and a long finish. Would go well with traditional Kakhetian dishes or guda (Tushetian sheep’s cheese).
